...it is never too early or too late to find and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, he can bring comfort to all in any circumstances and especially in these troubled times.
Bob and I have attended HSBC for many years: I for the whole of my life and Bob since we met at the Church Youth Club when we were 16. I was born into a family whose connection with the Church was from when it was built in 1891. As a child I was surrounded by not only family but friends who spoke lovingly and openly of how the Lord Jesus was the centre of their lives. I always felt the love of God in my home and prayers and Bible readings were part of our daily lives.
My grandfather had led the Sunday School for many years and my parents were Sunday School teachers. Consequently, I felt my place in Heaven was assured, until at the age of 15 I was challenged about my faith and realised I needed to make a personal decision and commitment to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. I realised that each of us needs to put our trust in Him and be forgiven for when we have failed Him. Assuming I was OK because of my upbringing didn’t count.
So that is what I did and after publicly declaring my faith, I was baptised and became a member of Hockliffe Street Baptist Church.
Soon after I was to meet Bob and he started to attend some services with me.
Bob had been christened at North St. Methodist Church, where he attended the Sunday School. On his own admission Sundays were more for playing football. After our marriage in 1964 he was supportive in assuring that our two children attended church as I was a Sunday School Teacher, but he only came to worship occasionally.
In 2004 I was diagnosed with a serious illness and during this time we received love and support from so many believers from the church. This reflected in such a positive way to Bob that he felt the love of God through these Christian friends and spent time in prayer and Bible Study with our friends, and also with our minister, Pete, and the ministry team. He was baptised as a declaration of his faith at the age of 68.
Both Bob and I want people to know that it is never too early or too late to find and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. He can bring comfort to all in any circumstances and especially in these troubled times.
