Believing in Jesus is a relationship, with someone who cares so deeply...

I grew up going to church on Sundays and believed and trusted in the Lord Jesus from a young age. However, church was something I did on Sundays, on church camps, and youth group. I didn’t have a close relationship with Jesus as I do now, but more of a hobby of Christian activities.

So, what changed?

I moved to England 17 years ago with my husband, Ryan.  After three weeks, I was longing to attend a church Christmas service, perhaps because I was away from home, in a strange country.

After the service a family invited us to their house for Christmas Dinner. Their kindness was overwhelming! These strangers who wanted to have us to dinner on a special family day, Christmas Day! We gladly accepted their offer, but only years later did I realise the true love and care they showed. To welcome us in, as their family, and show us true kindness was a great example of how to have a relationship with Jesus. Loving Jesus was not something we do at groups we enjoy, although that is a blessing, but loving Jesus changes our hearts and our actions causing us to love others.

Years later, I had the opportunity to show kindness to a young man in need. Driving home from a prayer meeting, I stopped at a shop. A man asked me if I’d seen a £10 note as he’d lost it. I initially assumed he was after money, but instead I chose to love him and show him kindness. I prayed a simple prayer for the Lord to help me. I suggested he walk back the way he came to look for it. It was pouring with rain, so this was not going to be easy. I kept my eyes peeled as I drove slowly home. I could hardly believe it, as I rounded the corner – in the middle of the road something caught my car lights. It was his £10 note! Then I saw him walking up the road. I shouted, “I found your £10!”. He was overcome with relief and gratitude as this money was to pay his electricity meter that week.

Believing in Jesus is a relationship, with someone who cares so deeply He doesn’t judge you but shows kindness and love. Like someone who invites you into their home and spoils you with good things.

Every day, God opens my eyes to know Him more, love like Him and share more of Him to those who don’t know Him. Thank you, Jesus, for saving me.
